27 Weeks Pregnancy Update {Link-Up #23}

11.25.2013

It's been a while since I've done a pregnancy update and since this post is all about babies anyway, I thought I'd share.

I am 27 weeks pregnant and feeling great. Tired, hungry, and great!

(And yes, this is the best I could do for a belly picture. We were going for a cute pinterest photo, but this is what we got.  And no, we don't usually let our two-year-old stand on the coffee table.)

It's honestly hard to believe that I'm already entering the third trimester. This pregnancy has gone by so quickly, I hardly know what to think. I still wake up in the morning and am genuinely surprised that I have a big belly. Whoa, how did that happen?

I'm sure it had something to do with the ten peanut butter covered pancakes I ate yesterday. Yes, ten. Six for breakfast and four as an afternoon snack. It sounds unreasonable (especially considering my husband only ate three), but trust me, it's necessary. I can eat six pancakes for breakfast and still be hungry by lunch time. In fact, I eat six peanut butter pancakes almost every morning. I've tried to fix eggs and vegetable hash, but honestly, I still need a couple pancakes on the side. I'm growing a baby here!

And I'm still nursing a baby, which means I can also throw in a fruit smoothie every night and not feel guilty in the least. Strawberries, mangos, pineapple, orange juice...my mouth is watering just thinking about it!

Cupcake is still nursing 5 times a day (before every meal, snack, and bedtime). We went through a rough patch while on our Whole30, and I thought we were going to have to quit. However, as soon as I started chowing down on peanut butter pancakes my milk supply went up, and we've not had any trouble. (I've since found out that low milk supply is common on a Whole 30. I just wasn't getting enough fat which is high in calories.)

I've also started gaining weight which is good thing considering I'm 27 weeks pregnant. I'm up 10 pounds (ish) from my pre-pregnancy weight. Although, it was more like an I'm-going-to-throw-up-for-two-days-straight-from-a-stomach-bug weight, so I'm not sure if I get to count those last 3 pounds I lost.  So far this pregnancy has been my least as far as weight gain. I think it has to do with the fact that we've been eating a lot better, and the fact that I'm still nursing Cupcake.

I'm telling you, ten pancakes is not excessive.

I do have an appointment this week for my sugar test, and I'm not looking forward to the awful orange kool-aid junk I'll have to drink. If I'm going to have to break my sugar-free diet, I'd at least like a real Coke, maybe some chocolate cake. Is that too much to ask?

Now, enough about me, let's see what you have to say this week!

  1. Katherine, this was wonderful to read! And I have to say, that's not a big belly, but it is a wonderful pinterest pic! Nothing better than your baby hugging on your baby belly-precious! I'm with you, 10 pancakes is not excessive, and you did good...you covered them in peanut butter. :) I'm impressed that you've only gained 10 pounds so far, and if you add in the 3 you lost that's still only 13 pounds! I think with most of my pregnancies I'll gain 10 pounds within the first month, even though I'll have morning sickness. My body seems to pack on the pounds early in the pregnancy, not matter what I do. :) Congrats on your pregnancy, and that everything seems to be going well! Praying for your glucose test. I was always fine with the orange drink, but never did well with the morning fast. I always ended up with headaches and nausea. Let us know how it turns out!!
