I’m not normally a crafty kind of person, but now that I have
a 2 year old running around, I figure it’s about time we start doing some of
those cute, Pinterest-worthy craft projects.
And because I’m a cool mom, our first project involved
finger paint.
Rooster LOVED painting. I’ve seen lots of fall tree projects
online that involve kid’s hand prints, but I wanted this project to be all
about the FUN of finger painting, not the “fun” of me trying to force him to
keep his hand flat and not smear the edges. I did try to do Cupcake’s hand
print, but if you keep scrolling you’ll see how well that turned out…
What you’ll need:
Copies of the Free Fall Tree Printable {Download Here}
Yellow and Red Paint (I
used plain old craft paint. Washable paint is for pansies.)
Paper plate
Glue or Tape
Construction Paper for Frame
I printed out several copies of our tree and put a glob of
yellow and red paint on a paper plate. I then mixed some of the yellow and red
together to get an orange color. Then I showed Rooster how to dip his
fingers in the paint and make dots on the tree. I did cover up the words on the
bottom of the paper so that he wouldn't paint over them, but other than that I let
him exercise his creativity {smile}.
Once we were done painting (he decorated several trees), we washed
our hands and let the paint dry. Then I taped our trees onto construction paper frame to make a frame.
Here is what I thought the tree should look like.
It’s a fall tree with lots of pretty leaves.
And here is Rooster’s version. It’s a tree that’s losing leaves fast!
And here is Cupcake’s version. We tried to get her hand prints, but she was much more interested in smooshing and
smearing. We ended up with a tree that's on fire! Oh well, it’s all about having fun, right?
There you have it. A super easy, quick, and FUN craft for little ones of any age!

Cute idea! I don't know if I'm brave enough for paint with my 3 year old twins, but maybe stamping ink? Or is that worse? Ah well, an idea worth saving for sure! Looking forward to reading more from you this week with the #InspiredBN series. Be blessed!
ReplyDeleteThanks! We've painted one other time when Rooster was 15 months old or so. I stripped him down and let him paint on the back porch. We used washable paint, but it left stains on his hands, so this time we used regular craft paint, and it came right off! Of course, with TWO kids painting you might need to recruit some extra help :)
DeleteWhat a pretty project! I can't wait to have my son do this. :)
ReplyDeleteOh my goodness, your kids are too cute! Awesome idea by the way, pinning it to my Fall Fine Motor pinterest board!!
ReplyDeleteLove these girl!! =D
ReplyDeleteOh I love this, I'm going to print this out and make this a craft project soon with my little one. He's more into grabbing right now than actually painting, but we'll get there! :) LOL
ReplyDeleteBlessings,
Nicole @ WKH
How fun! pinning this to my preschool board, but I think all ages would enjoy this. Thanks so much!
ReplyDeleteI love it! I'm definitely going to do this with my 3- and 5-year-olds while my older kids are doing their art work on Mondays! (We homeschool and Monday is the day we try to do art if the week allows.)
