Oh how often we've quoted this verse, and for a good reason! It's beautifully succinct message contains the most basic and important elements of the Gospel.
However, we hear this verse quoted so often I think sometimes we stop really listening. We parrot the words along with the preacher all the while letting our minds roam to other things.
However, this passage in John 3 has a BIG message that applies to all of us, children and adults alike. So this week I want to take some time and study this verse and the passage around it. Hopefully, looking with fresh eyes at the words we know so well will help us appreciate it's message in a great way.
But first, what is the message?
For God...
You know the one who created the universe, including you and me. The only true God, the living God, an everlasting king! (Genesis 1, Jeremiah 10:10)
so loved the world...
The very place he created, the people that turned their back on him, rejecting his will and instead choosing to eat the fruit of our own choosing (Romans 3:10)
that he gave his only begotten Son...
Jesus. The Word who was with God in the beginning, who was God made into the form and likeness of a man. A man who was tempted in every way like we are but was without sin. (John 1:1, Hebrews 4:15)
that whosoever...
Meaning anybody! Regardless of race, age, sex, or culture. (Galatians 3:28)
believeth in him...
Trusting by grace through faith in the power of Christ unto salvation. (Ephesians 2:8)
should not perish,
Should not stand before God condemed of the sin, condemed to eternal punishment seperated from God. (John 3:18)
but have everlasting life.
Life in heaven, free from the fear of sin and death. Life abundant, perfected in the very presence of our Creator. (Revelation 22)
My prayer is that today you can know that great love offered freely to all who confess and all who believe in Jesus.

Thankful for the Love of God because he loves us :)
