This fluttery feeling in the pit of my stomach that makes me want to hide under the covers and cry because I am seriously contemplating eating a bowl of ice cream instead of that {stupid} fruit smoothie (no offense fruit smoothie).
I joined First Place for Heath last week, a new woman's Bible Study at our church that doubles as a weight loss program and accountability group. I mostly joined for the Bible Study...mostly.
It would also be nice if I could lose this extra 30 pounds I've been hanging on too. 15 of those pounds are what you would call "baby weight", a.k.a the price I paid this super cute bundle of joy.
The rest is my emergency fund. You know, just in case we have a food shortage, and I need to live on my own reserves for a while {smile}.
For real though. I want to lose the extra weight. My pre-pregnancy clothes don't fit, and I can't afford a whole new wardrobe. I'm down to only one pair of jeans, so if you see me wearing jeans two days in a row, you can bet they aren't clean and probably smell faintly of spit up.
So far my diet is going as well as can be expected, except that we aren't allowed to call it a "diet". It's a "Live It" because we are learning to eat healthy for the rest of our lives.
It feels a lot like a diet. No sweets or fried foods. Lots of vegetables, fruits, and whole grains.
Which brings me to my current dilemma. Ice cream or fruit smoothie? One has lots of excess sugar, one doesn't. One makes me giggle with glee and feel great about my life, the other...not so much.
Don't get me wrong. I really like fruit smoothies. They just don't provide the same overloaded-on-sugar-and-cream feeling I've come to love and long for.
But if I eat that ice cream, I have to write it down. (Cardinal rule of
And yes! I'll go ahead and admit it. I've already had ice cream twice in the last three days. I'm terrible at live-it-ing. Just terrible.
But I'm not going to eat ice cream tonight. I'm going to go make that fruit smoothie and mourn the loss of all my freedom and joy...and hopefully a few unwanted pounds.
Gotta love that accountability!

Hey! Good on you for self-discipline. This week I have been terrible and have had something sweet everyday...Sometimes more. This week I just didn't care - think it's late pregnancy hormones ;)
ReplyDeleteA great book I recommend to all my friends is called Fooling the Female Fat Cell by Debra Waterhouse. It changed my whole understanding about our bodies and how they work. It showed me how to give myself grace, change what I need to but still enjoy things I like, like chocolate!
Hey my church is doing that study and has had great results. (I am not taking part in it). FYI fruits have natural sugars. So a fruit smoothie can have just as much sugar in it as an ice cream one depending what you put in it. My diabetic father keeps reminding me of this every time I have a fruit smoothie. So maybe an ice cream smoothie can be just as healthy? Honestly the best diet is healthy living. I find that helps me out. I hate diets but I love living healthy (cause I can still eat my chocolate cake and lose weight) Good luck!

This post made me laugh out loud! Oh, it's so hard to eat good sometimes. Personally, I've had chocolate ice cream this week as well, along with zebra cakes and some other processed junk. At least you overcame this ice cream temptation today! Accountability really is an awesome thing! I wish my church would do this! I would totally join in!

Have you tried just putting a bit of ice cream in your smoothie? It's still technically a smoothie, but it might trick you into liking it more. I am the same way as you though - ice cream sounds SOOOO much better than a smoothie! Sometimes, I have to go for something totally different because a smoothie can not stand up to ice cream. So I go for something like an apple. It's not supposed to be a substitute for ice cream, so I'm not as disappointed.
ReplyDeleteVisiting from Mommy Moments. Hope you have a great week!
Hang in there! I would love for you to share your post at my blog hop and share this and other posts there! I am also your newest follower and hope you will return the favor.

Love this story! I have dealt with this dilemma many times. ;)
ReplyDeleteHave you ever tried making "banana" ice-cream? It's amazing and super healthy but still gives you that sweet tooth kick like real ice-cream. Basically, you take a frozen banana or 2 and blend it with chocolate, a little bit of sweetener, and some milk (I use non-dairy milk). I also like to throw in some peanut butter for a Reese's version, or some yogurt & vanilla extract for a frozen yogurt version. Because I don't have a vita-mixer, I leave mine in the freezer for a few hours till it sets up like ice-cream. Then you can add chopped nuts or whatever you desire. And if you're really craving it...you can put a little chocolate syrup on top. I am not a huge banana fan but I LOVE making this "ice-cream." It's soooooo yummy and totally fills up my sweet tooth. :)
Here's a recipe example, similar to what I do. :)
