Pretty, Pretty, Pintrest

2.23.2013

I am that mother. You know, the one who fed her child pancakes with powdered sugar for breakfast. The one who let her toddler eat peaches off the floor. The one who ran across the kitchen today yelling, "Don't eat that poop!". Turns out it was brownie, but it could have been poop.

Some days I feel right on par as a mother, productive, disciplined, and creative. Other days I am just holding on until naptime!

I'm also that mom who loves Pintrest (Who doesn't?!?!). I recently rekindled that love by spending hours (yep, hours!) reorganizing my Pintrest boards. It's the one place in my life  I can live out my dreams of craftiness, frugality, organization all without getting off the couch!

Of course, Pintrest's claim to fame is that it takes everyone's good ideas and puts them all in one place...but that can also be very misleading. Pintrest highlights bloggers, crafters, designers, and fashionistas at their finest, which is great for idea gathers but not so encouraging for a mother like me. It's easy to forget that even these Pintrest perfect ladies have lazy days, messy floors, and frozen pizza every now and then. However, when you spend enough time dwelling on the ideal, real life can seem a little bit less than relaxing.

Now I'm sure someone's life looks this pretty every now and then, but let's be honest, those Pintrest perfect moments are few and far between.

More often than not I'm just trying to keep bottoms diapered and bellies full, and if that means serving peaches right off the floor, then so be it!  I refuse to be ashamed. This is real life, and it's pretty awesome.

  1. Love the comparisons! So true and I wouldn't trade it! I look at Pinterest but I've always been wary because I know my weakness of comparing my inadequacies with other people's perfections. The things I usually pin are articles, recipes and sewing things.I never, ever look at house stuff!

    2. One time when my boys were little, they blew their noses on the living room curtains. I never did find out which one did it.....though I have my suspicions. They did one other things that is too awful to put on a public forum. But they grew to adulthood and I didn't die.

    3. Oh my! I've been known to use a dirty shirt to wipe a little boy's nose. It's already dirty! Curtains on the other hand...haha!!! Thanks for sharing

  5. Love, love, love this!!! I'm so glad that I found your post on Raising Imperfection!! Sometimes we mothers can beat ourselves up for not living the "perfect and pretty" life we see on other's blogs. Remembering the realities of motherhood is refreshing and fun to read about!!

  11. Love, love, love the side-by-side photo comparison. LOL There is definitely a gap between what we see on Pinterest and what is "real life". As you said, Pinterest showcases only the best-of-the-best. Thanks for sharing this with The Bliss Project!

  12. I sometimes find myself daydreaming about having that perfect kitchen or more often then not, perfect library. Then I realize how unrealistic because I'd want to use my library. And if I did that,it wouldn't look so neat and put together. Which of course, reminds me that those "picture perfect" libraries are not nearly as perfect as my house and space. Because its where my family is. :) AND that's what makes it perfect! Great post, thanks for sharing!

  13. Love this! It's so important to remember that those snapshots of the clean kitchens and perfectly healthy meals are exactly that- snapshots. Real life isn't neat, pretty and perfect... but that's the way it's supposed to be. :)
