39 Weeks: A Gift Worth Waiting For

12.23.2012

It's hard to believe we are at 39 weeks...really hard to believe

I'm not sure when I fell into the trap of thinking that Teacup would come early. Maybe it was because my original due date was Dec 9th, and she measured 2 weeks big for the last half of my pregnancy. Maybe it was the fact that we'd already started dilating at 36 weeks. Or it could have to do with the fact that I've been having some pretty uncomfortable contractions on and off every day for the last week or so.

Regardless of the reason, here we are at 39 weeks, and I am still very, very pregnant.

Sigh.

But you know what? I'm glad. I am truly thankful for this blessing. I'm thankful for the ability to carry a healthy child to full term. I'm thankful for those little feet kicking and stretching (it must be getting cramped in there!). I'm thankful I still have the ability to do silly things like jog across the church parking lot and jump on a trampoline with my son. I'm thankful that I can still spend 3 hours in the kitchen getting food ready for Christmas day without so much as a backache or swollen feet.

God has blessed with with a wonderful and carefree pregnancy, so who am I to complain if it's a little longer than I would have like?

So this Christmas I'm going to just relax and enjoy the blessing of being with family, eating lots of sugar cookies, and hopefully exchanging lots of presents! And soon enough (like in the next two weeks or so), I will be enjoying the blessings of sleepless nights, {more}dirty diapers, and lost pacifiers.

I know...it sounds too good to be true, but trust me, it's a gift worth waiting for.

Merry Christmas!

*Yes, I know Rooster looks miserable in this picture. Some people would rather take a nap after church than have their mother drag them around taking pictures...how rude!

  2. Thank you for reminding me of this perspective. Having a healthy baby is a blessing...even when he/she doesn't arrive on my time table. :-) God's timing and plans are perfect.
