I failed... miserably. I tried really hard to just write and not edit, but I didn't do well at all. I guess there is a reason they call it a writing exercise...it takes a lot of work!
However, for now I'll share with you what I wrote anyway. You don't care if it took longer than 5 mins, right?
Today's prompt was "Wide." Of course all I could think about was the song "Deep and Wide" and subsequently have had it stuck in my head all morning. Not a bad way to start the day :)
I can imagine the fear that swept over the Israelites
trapped with Pharaoh’s army on one side and the Red Sea, deep and wide, on the other. They were finally free from captivity only to
have it looming over their shoulder once again.
Or the fear of Peter as he looked around and realized he was
doing in the impossible, walking on water too
deep and too wide for any mortal man. He took his eyes off Jesus for one
moment and found himself sinking into the Sea of Galilee, waves threatening to overwhelm
him.
Or the young girl who, after a weekend gone all wrong, finds
herself sitting on her bathroom floor faced with two little blue lines that hold
the whole world between them, a fear so deep and so wide that life will never
be the same again.
We’ve all found ourselves in places too big for us, stuck,
frightened, and alone. And in those times when fear threatens to overtake us,
we have only one hope, one promise: that neither height, nor depth, nor fear,
nor failure can separate us from the Love of God.
There is no situation too hard, no sea too deep, and no
decision too great that God's love can’t cover us. He stands ready to forgive us,
save us, and make us whole.
In the midst of fear, He is our peace. A fountain of mercy
flowing deep and wide.
