It's a Girl!!!

8.10.2012

Well the big news is out!  We are having a little girl!!!

We had our 20 week ultrasound today and were pleasantly surprised to find out we are having a girl. Of course, I've said it was a girl all along. Before we went into the ultrasound my husband claimed it was a boy, but when we came out he confessed that he always thought it was a girl too. Apparently he thought someone needed to be rooting for the boy team just in case. Not sure if I believe him...

After the ultrasound I proceeded to text everyone I know the good news. At least I started texting everyone until my husband reminded me that if I text everyone then no one would read about it on my blog! I decided to reign it in a little after that :)

Now for the rest of the update...

How far along are you?  19 weeks 5 days which means we are halfway there!

Baby's growth?  The baby weighs about 10 1/2 ounces now. He's also around 6 1/2 inches long from head to bottom and about 10 inches from head to heel — the length of a banana. Our Little L measured and weight right on target for her gestation. Way to go baby!

Weight Gain? I've gained 7 pounds so far this pregnancy, which is kind of surprising considering all the sweet I've eaten the past two weeks. Hopefully I'll keep gaining at this pace and maybe shoot for the lower end of normal this time around. (I gained about 32 pounds with Rooster)

Medical Stuff?  Like I said, we had our ultrasound today and everything looks great! We did get some bad news though. Our OB is not going to be delivering babies anymore which means we have to find a new doctor. I'd like to say I spent lots of time researching doctors and birthing options, but...I didn't. I just went with the next doctor on the list at the hospital. What can I say? I really don't like making these kinds of decisions.

Movement?  Yes! Finally :) This sweet girl likes to move, and I'm starting to feel it even when I'm standing and moving. Today during our ultrasound she was all over the place. Apparently she didn't like someone probing her and taking her picture. I do love those little kicks though! They are a constant reminder of God's graciousness to our family.

Something I'm Excited About.... buying dresses, bows, and pink diapers! I really am so excited for a girl. I would have been excited for a boy too, but I am very glad it's a girl. I guess I need to put those baby boy clothes in storage after all. We need to make room in Rooster's closet!

I'm also excited about Rooster sleeping through the night! It hasn't happened yet, but it's going to soon. I can feel it. We started night weaning him a few days ago. So far all we have is lots of crying, but he has started taking naps during the day without nursing. I think he's just gotten used to falling asleep without nursing which is such a blessing! We are down to 3 nursing sessions a day: early morning, late afternoon, and before bed.  I have mixed feelings about weaning still, but I know it's the best thing for us, even if it breaks my heart!

Isn't she precious?!?! I thought so :)

  3. Congrats Katherine! I'm so excited for you! After 2 boys, I know the excitement of expecting a girl!

And you have chosen a beautiful name! We are considering Joy for a middle name if we have a girl.

That's awful about your doc! It's never fun having to find a new doctor, especially smack dab in the middle of a pregnancy.

I also wanted to let you know that I'm giving the Liebster Award to you!! You can find out more details about it here:
