Books, Books, Books

4.04.2012

Another blogger over at This Mom Follows God recently had the great idea to share our personal libraries with each other. It's no secret that we LOVE books. My husband and I both are avid readers, and we both brought a sizable collection of books into our marriage. Since then our collection keeps growing and our free shelf space keeps dwindling! It's a good problem to have.

My favorite bookshelf is in our living room. We really enjoy going to used book stores and always manage to walk away with something neat to add to our collection. We love old hymnals and are always looking for classic literature. However, we believe books are for reading, not just for decoration. We've read through most of the books in our collection several times!

This shelf is in our kitchen and contains cookbooks as well as any recent Bible Study books. I like to do my Bible Study on the kitchen table so it's a convenient place for them.

These shelves serve as both bookshelves and clothing shelves in our bedroom. We each have one on our side of the bed. We actually had to get rid of our nightstands and a dresser to fit them in, but hey, we needed the room for books!

This cozy reading nook is located in our guest room. I love getting to snuggle up in the corner with a good book on a sunny day! This room also has the added bonus of staying the cleanest since it's rarely used. It's my escape when the rest of the house is a mess!

Finally, our newest addition to our family library. In only 6 months of life, Rooster has managed to rack up quite a few books of his own. He hasn't figured out how to read them yet, but we're working on it :)

Now which ones are my favorites? Well, all of them of course! But for the sake of time I'll give you the short list. Many of these my husband and I both enjoy (except of course for the girly books, those are just me).

Fiction
Watership Down by Richard Adams
Hornblower Saga by C.S. Forester
The Education of Little Tree by Forrest Carter
The Giver by Lois Lowery
Hinds Feet on High Places by Hannah Hurnard
Redeeming Love by Francine Rivers

Non-Fiction
May It Please the Court... Edited by Peter Irons and Stephanie Guitton
Financial Peace by Dave Ramsey
Lies Women Believe by Nancy Leigh DeMoss
Choosing to See by Mary Beth Chapman
Parenting in the Pew by Robbie Castlemen
Family Driven Faith by Voddie Bauchman
Sacred Marriage by Gary Thomas

I also went to ask Rooster what he favorite book was, and of course I found him in the bathtub reading. Like mother, like son.

Time to share! What are your family's favorite books?
