A few weeks ago, I proclaimed March 16th to be John 3:16 Day at the Blackford house. I wanted it to be a day full of doing nice things for others and sharing the love of Jesus with the people around us. Boy was it a busy day!
We delivered flowers to several of our friends around town
and to the houses of a few church members. We had lots of fun visiting people! I think most everybody was more excited about getting a visit from
Rooster than from actually getting flowers.
We delivered these tin can treats to all of the public school teachers
we know (which turns out to be quite a few!). I found the idea at Our Best Bites. The tins were super fun to make and so very
cute! I was quite pleased with how well they turned out.
We used the cans of fruit with the pull tab on top. Just pull the label off and use a can opener to open the bottom of the can. If you're making a bunch of these you'll have to find something useful to do with the fruit (I made lots of baby food). After washing the can out, fill it with candy or whatever you want and super glue the bottom back on. Then just wrap the can with scrapbook paper, add a label and some ribbon, and you're good to go!
Rooster helped deliver the cookies and even slobbered on most the bags. Of course no one seemed to mind. Our neighbors were quite happy to be greeted at the door by a bag of cookies and sweet little baby. I mean really, what could be better than that?
Overall, I would say John 3:16 Day was a BIG success! We blessed 35 people with our little gifts, but of course, now I'm exhausted! I did learn one very important lesson though. You don't have to wait for a holiday to do something nice for someone. Most of the people we talked to today had no idea what John 3:16 Day was. For them, we were just thoughtful people sent to brighten their day, and guess what? They liked it. Apparently people really like random acts of kindness. Who knew? :)
How fun! Sadly, John 3:16 has a bad reputation in my neck of the woods (people are vandalizing places by spray painting it everywhere), but this is such a fabulous idea that I might try it with a different scripture.
ReplyDeleteThanks for sharing (and the idea)!
